Common Singapore Visa Rejection Reasons

Insufficient Financial Proof

Bank balance below the recommended level, sudden large deposits, or unclear financials can trigger concern about your ability to support the trip.

Weak Ties to India

If you cannot show strong reasons to return (job, business, studies, family, property), your application may be viewed as high-risk.

Incorrect / Incomplete Documentation

Missing pages in bank statements, incomplete cover letter, mismatched details in passport vs forms, or unclear hotel / flight bookings.

Travel History & Previous Overstay

Past overstays in Singapore or other countries, or violation of previous visa conditions, can reduce your chances.

Passport Issues

Damaged passport, inadequate validity, or altered data pages.

Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) vs Tourist Visa

What is Singapore VFTF?

Singapore offers a 96-hour Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) for eligible Indian travellers who are transiting through Singapore and meet specific conditions, such as holding a valid visa or residence permit for certain third countries (like the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, etc.) and having confirmed onward tickets.

Key limitations of VFTF

  • VFTF is only for transit – it is not meant for a full holiday in Singapore.
  • You must continue to a third country; in most cases you cannot use VFTF to fly back directly to India.
  • The stay is strictly limited to up to 96 hours and cannot be extended under any circumstance.
For regular tourism, sightseeing, or visiting family and friends in Singapore, you should apply for a dedicated Singapore Tourist Visa instead of relying on VFTF.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do Indians need a visa to visit Singapore?

Yes. Indian passport holders need a visa to visit Singapore for tourism or short family visits, unless they are eligible transit passengers under the 96-hour VFTF.
There is no Visa on Arrival for Indian tourists in Singapore.

2. How do “Visa Validity” and “Stay Period” work for Singapore?

Visa Validity(e.g. 60 days, multiple entry) is the time window within which you can travel to Singapore on that visa.

Stay Period (usually up to 30 days per visit for Indian tourists) is decided by Immigration on arrival and printed on your Visit Pass. You must leave Singapore on or before that date.

3. Is it difficult to get a Singapore Tourist Visa from India?

For most genuine travellers with complete documents, Singapore tourist visas are known to be fairly quick and straightforward compared to many other visas, as long as:

• Your financials are clear
• Your purpose of travel is genuine
• Your documents are complete and consistent

Many applications are processed within 3–8 working days, though you should still apply at least 10–15 days before your trip as a buffer.

4. How early should I apply for a Singapore Tourist Visa?

Ideal: 10–15 days before travel
During peak seasons or if your case is complex: 3–4 weeks in advance.

5. How much bank balance is required for a Singapore Tourist Visa?

There is no officially fixed minimum from ICA (Immigration & Checkpoints Authority), but our visa partner recommends:
At least ₹80,000 minimum maintained balance over the last 6 months in your bank statement.
This figure is designed to comfortably cover flights, stay, local travel, food and emergencies for a typical short trip.

6. Is travel insurance mandatory for a Singapore Tourist Visa?

No. However, travel insurance is strongly recommended even where not compulsory, because medical costs abroad, trip cancellations or lost baggage can become expensive. You can easily add ICICI Lombard travel insurance along with your visa application on ExTravelMoney so that everything is managed in one place.

7. Can I work in Singapore on a tourist visa?
