That is definitely true. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll have to do currency exchange twice, once in India (INR-USD) and then in Vietnam (USD-VND).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But do keep in mind, the USD to VND conversion is even cheaper. Typically, exchanges in Vietnam only charge about 0.3% conversion rate for this!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even with converting your currency twice, this way of carrying money is the cheapest option, both from our research and from first-hand experience of travellers in Vietnam. So you\u2019d have to pay Rs 1000 extra.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After landing in Vietnam, the USD to VND conversion will cost you 0.3%. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">0.3% of 1201 USD = 3.6 USD which is Rs 300 as per today\u2019s rate.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So total loss on conversion works out to Rs 1000 + Rs 1300 = Rs 1300. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This loss is far lesser in comparison to directly converting INR to VND.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Tip 1:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Don\u2019t exchange USD for Dong inside the airport in Vietnam. Go into the nearby local market and you\u2019ll find currency exchange outlets which offer superb rates.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Tip 2<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Carry 70% of your total travel budget in the form of US dollar currency notes.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Don\u2019t rely on International Credit\/Debit Cards<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are not a good option because of the many extra costs. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Say you have an brought and international credit or debit card from India that you are planning to use in Vietnam;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Swiping<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><b>3.5% forex markup<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; International debit\/credit cards have a foreign currency conversion fee which is around 3.5%. This is the fee for converting the INR balance to VND. You might not see it right then but will be able to see it later in your card statement. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>ATM Withdrawal<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ATM Withdrawal is even more costly than Swiping. It has a bunch of charges associated with it;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><b>1.<\/b> <b>3.5% forex markup<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; This charge is present here also. 3.5% of the amount being withdrawn will be taken from your card balance as currency conversion charges.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><b>2.<\/b> <b>Card usage abroad fee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Usually it\u2019s anywhere around Rs 100 to Rs 300 depending on your card provider. Also, GST is applicable on this charge which works out to Rs 18 to Rs 54 (18% GST).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><b>3. Foreign ATM fee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; The Vietnam bank operating the ATM will charge a fee for using it. This is around 55,000 to 60,000 VND depending on the ATM.
